Alison and Steven are ready to move to Spain!! Can you believe it?!

They are officially our first small group participants to make the move, and we couldn't be more excited 🤩.

Alison and Steven will be moving to the city of Valencia with their 4-year-old Eden at the start of the new year.

They are currently working with our relocation partner to help them find an apartment. And they are so excited to start touring schools for Eden.

They will be applying for a digital nomad visa when they arrive*, as applying from within Spain will give them a longer visa when approved.

We cannot wait for them to come to Spain and fall in love with this amazing country, as we have.

*They are doing this under the advisement of our lawyer partner; we do not recommend coming to Spain to apply for a visa without consulting with a lawyer first!

As a special Thanksgiving treat, we wanted to give you a first look at our medical module! 😱

You might know that Spain has a really good nationalized healthcare system filled with incredible doctors.

But you might not know that it's not available for those who are not Spanish or are not working for a Spanish company. 

For this reason, one of your main visa requirements will be full coverage private health insurance for a year. 

And let me tell you, the private health system in Spain is amazing!

And best of all, it's actually affordable!!

We absolutely LOVE our private insurance. So much that even now that we have access to the public system, we have kept our private healthcare.

Well, the elections are over... 🇺🇸 

And with that in mind, we thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about the reasons why we moved to Spain four years ago.

Although it's difficult to encapsulate all of our reasons in a short email, in a nutshell we wanted: 

• A life that wasn't focused on work
• Access to better food quality 
• To live in a place that lets us travel more for less
• A safe environment to raise our growing family
• To finally learn Spanish and raise a bilingual family
• To be a part of a culture that prioritizes relationships and community

And today, we are so grateful to call this beautiful country home 🇪🇸. 

No place is without its issues. But, we would never go back on the decision we made three years ago. Especially because of the wonderful people that have accepted us into their community.

Jim and Robyne were actually the first people who signed up for our Move to Spain small group 🤩. They are from Evanston, IL and are planning to retire in Valencia, Spain next year.

After years of traveling and considering different locations for their retirement, they found that Spain ticked all their boxes...

It's walkable, has easy access to public transport, and great culture.

They also love that it's so close to other great travel destinations!!

The current plan is to retire in July, sell their house in the Spring, and make the big move to Valencia in August or September.

One of the biggest reasons they decided to work with us is because they really wanted to have someone to ask questions to!

When we made the decision to move to Spain, we were scared sh*tless... 😱

This is such a big decision. And there are a lot of uncertainties to deal with along the way.

When we made the decision to move to Spain we decided to do it all on our own.

This means we made a TON of mistakes, like... 

• Spending thousands exchanging dollars to euros 
• Overpaying for medical insurance by at least €500 
• Messing up on both our US and Spanish tax returns 😱  
• Not changing our bank verification info and almost losing access to our US bank accounts
• Spending around 300 euros on low quality furniture and house decor (that broke in under a year 🙄) because we didn't know where to shop
• And so many more little mistakes... 

We also did all of this while pregnant. And it was HARD.

We had no support, no idea of what steps we needed to take, and had to use Reddit, FB groups and Google to get answers to our most basic questions 🤦‍♀️. 

We don't want anyone else to have to go through what we did.

Meet Alison, Steven & Eden

Alison and Steven live in Arizona with their 4-year old Eden.

On a recent trip to Spain, they fell in love with Valencia because it "felt like home!"

They believe Spain will provide a safer environment and a better education for Eden, and they are looking forward to ditching their car and walking everywhere.

Meet Dylan

Dylan lives in Pennsylvania and is 28 years old.

He's hoping to move to Madrid and wants to live in Spain as he's drawn to its culture, safety, and healthcare.

He's going to apply to become an Auxiliar de Conversación to teach English in Spain through the NALCAP program. He hopes to become fluent in Spanish once here!
